Shemrock Celebrates Dussehra | Dussehra Celebrations

It is very important to make small kids aware of our Indian festivals and also to teach them the importance of these festivals. Building values in a kid is a process that starts from their playschool days itself. Keeping this belief in mind, Shemrock celebrates all the festivals in school so as to inculcate our beliefs, notions and a feeling of respect for Indian culture and tradition in the small child’s innocent heart.

Traditionally, during the festival of Dussehra, Ramlila is conducted at a huge ground or ‘maidan’. A fair in which over sized effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkarna- the three demon are filled with crackers and burnt on the day of Dussehra, at the Ramlila maidan. All the people dress up in new clothes and go to watch the ceremony, which is generally held in the evenings.

Keeping this tradition in mind, Shemrock also celebrated Dussehra in school. A day before the festival, the kids went for the Dussehra holiday break and the teachers presented a skit for the children. The skit was on the popular epic “Ramayana” so that kids could get the feel of Ramlila. Also, many of the small children came dressed as Ram, Sita, Hanuman, etc.

The children were shown the movie “Hanuman” and an effigy of Ravana – the great demon with ten heads, was made by the teachers, so that the kids could recognize the demon.
