Be a Role Model for Your Child

self-study-habits

Your little one is more like a sponge when it comes to learning behavior traits. They absorb things that they witness or experience at home. They look up to you and follow your mannerism. Sometimes what a child sees stands constructive in building his/her personality as a grown up individual and at times, any negativity around him/her, can hamper their healthy growth.

Listed below are a few things that you as parents must do in front of your child, so as to teach them the right values and manners:

  1. Be affectionate

Shower affection on your partner. It will not only strengthen your relationship but also make your child understand the importance of being affectionate towards others, be it their siblings, relatives, or friends.

  1. Talk politely and humbly

Show respect to your partner and watch your tone when you are speaking to them in front of your child. Try not to sound authoritative and rather be polite and humble.

  1. Say Sorry and Thank you more often

Acknowledge your partner’s efforts when they help you by saying ‘Thank you’ and don’t hesitate to apologize by saying ‘Sorry’.  They may be very simple words but they leave a big impact. When your child understands how these words need to be used in their day-to-day life, he/she will become more considerate towards others.

  1. Discuss things responsibly

Arguments are common in any household. Remember to always act maturely and discuss things responsibly. Even if you disagree with something; put up your thoughts clearly rather than putting up a fight. Such responsible behaviour teaches your child that everything can be sorted with open discussions.

  1. Seek each other’s advice

We all need some advice at some point of life. Whenever you are uncertain about anything, seek your partner’s advice. When you value each other’s advice, your kids will also look up to you for important advice and suggestions.

Model a behaviour that you would want your child to reciprocate. Each of life’s learnings begins from home.
