Shemrock and M2K celebrated Fathers Day 2009 with lots of fun and masti…
An Effort by Synergy- The Shemrock Parent Participation Programme

Shemrock Group of Schools, India’s leading chain of preschools had celebrated Fathers Day 2009 in partnership with M2K Cinemas on 20th and 21st June 2009. The two days mega event was organized at M2K Cinema Complex – Pitampura and Rohini. The programme organized by Shemrock and M2K had a lot more than just fun and masti for the kids and their Dads.

Fathers’ role in a Childs life is as important as a mother but we often forget the sacrifice of our fathers and the roles they have played in shaping our lives. Hence fathers day is perfect time when we can make our dads realize ‘How important they are for us’ and this was why we celebrated Fathers day on such a big Platform.

At Shemrock we’ve always believed that both teachers and parents play an important role in the growth and development of a child and it’s only through open communication, fruitful discussions and active participation that we can together lay a strong foundation for our children. We also realize that as parents we all want to spend quality time participating in our child’s learning activities. But at times we are so busy working or running our household that we somehow miss the opportunity.

Through Synergy- which is SHEMROCK’s Parent Participation Programme, we provide an opportunity for you to participate in your child’s learning according to your time schedule, your interest and your skills. Programmes such as Father’s Day celebrations, are an effort in this direction. As part of the programme, we invited all the parents especially the ‘Dads’ along with their children to enjoy and participate together in various fun – loaded activities and games on this special day!

There were a variety of games and activities for all the age groups of children and their dads….right from Antakshari till ‘Best Dressed Father and Child’. The special attraction of the event was ‘The Lucky Dip – a special holiday package’ sponsored by Club Mahindra worth Rs.20, 000. Games like continuous laughing and tongue twisters had pulled the crowd towards the show and made them participate in the games. Many fathers and kids had also performed on the latest dance numbers like ‘Yeh Duniya utt patanga’ & ‘Singh is King’. A number of children had also participated in the Painting competition sponsored by ‘The Child Magazine’, talent Hunt and Antakshari. The games were so interesting that people wanted to participate in it again and again.

There was also a special dance performance by “The Boogie Walk”, a well-known dance group. The sizzling performance by ‘The Boogie Walk team’ made the crowd dance and shout for ‘Once more – once more’.

The fathers Day celebration by Shemrock and M2K overall was a grand success……..

World Day Against Child Labour 2009……lets together remove child labour from the world.

A famous quotation by William Wordsworth says “The Child is the father of the Man”. But with the time, this beautiful quotation has lost all its meaning. Today the wealth of parents decides the destiny of their children whether they will enjoy life as they wish or work hard to earn their livelihood.

According the International Labour Organisation (ILO) around 165 million children between 5 to 14 years of age are involved in child labour all across the world which is something very sad. Considering this gruesome fact (ILO) has declared June 12 as World Day Against Child Labour. Every year on World Day Against Child Labour, ILO tries to highlight one of the ’Worst Forms or conditions of Child labour’. Its main motive is to remove child labour from the world and engage children into education.

Like many other countries of the world, child labour condition is also bad in India. Studies reveal that, India has the highest number of child labour of the world. Thousands of children are engaged in domestic work, mining, agriculture and other hard works. Besides this many children also work for long hours in factories. If we don’t take necessary actions soon then the condition will become worse in the coming years.

Hence we should try to find out possible ways to stop the child labour and save the children who are future of nation and world. So create awareness in the society, tell every parent about it. Most importantly, those who hire children for work should STOP hiring them….just try to put yourself in their place.

What you can do

  • Stop hiring children for household works, in factories etc.
  • If you find any child labour then – guide him; tell him that he must study to make his future bright.
  • Create awareness in your locality.
  • Get involved with some NGO etc.

Remember, if we together take remedial measures against the problem then the evil of child labour can be removed from the world.

Additionally word games help kids enhance certain important skills like reading, comprehension, logic, as well as expanding their vocabulary and general knowledge. Kids learn new things when they research things in atlas, dictionary or on Internet. In this way they also tend to remember what they have learned before.

Today word games are also used in schools. The best thing about word games like puzzles is that they always provide a challenge for kids. On the other hand kids try their level best to find all the answers and complete the grid. Word search puzzles are also good for kids because they enforce correct spelling.

Let’s have a look at some of the most accepted word games for kids:

1. Crosswords

Crosswords are like word puzzles wherein you need to arrange the words either horizontally or vertically. For this, you are provided with some clues. Crosswords are a fun way to practice vocabulary, spelling and comprehension.

Jumble is also word puzzle game in which a player is given a set of letters, in a jumbled way and he has to make a word out of it. For example ‘blejum’ i.e. jumble and so on. Isn’t it interesting?

3. Spell It

Spell it, another interesting word game for kids. In spell it, the player has to spell the word just as it sounds.

4. Anagrams
