The ongoing nursery admission rush in the capital has already led to pandemonium among the parents and another worrying trend has emerged for the first-time parents in the capital. The presence of siblings in the applied school has been taking up a big chunk of the points allotted by nursery schools for admissions. Some reputed schools in the capital have awarded as much as 30 points for children with siblings in the chosen school. This when combined with the very controversial neighbourhood criterion leaves a very restrictive scenario for many parents. Another limiting factor has been that of parents who aren’t originally from Delhi and this removes them from scoring in the alumni status.

The recent terror attacks in Mumbai have made the parents and the Delhi Police aware that children of in capital are very vulnerable to being victims of such attacks in case any terror strikes are unleashed upon a school. The Delhi Police has been trying to convince the parents that despite their best efforts, there is no really no intelligence input good enough to warn about the threat of terror strikes in advance. As a result, parents and teachers are coming together to create some sort of a safety net. This includes having guards on school buses and chip-embedded identity cards that ensure child safety and tracking respectively. The chip-based ID cards at least communicate with the school’s servers to help locate the child within the school’s premises. These hi-tech cards would cost something like 3000 and provide some peace of mind to the parents.
