An initiative was taken to raise the awareness level among the school children of Delhi regarding dreaded diseases of the liver like Hepatitis and also about health issues like organ donation on December 4th — Hepatitis Day. The presentation was held at the Maulana Azad Medical College and was organised by the Delhi Government’s Department of Family Welfare. The initiative was assisted by G.B. Pant Hospital and College. This makes a lot of sense as nearly 45 million Indians suffer from Hepatitis B and 15 million from Hepatitis C that lead to liver failure and cancer. In fact the number of recorded deaths due to Hepatitis B in a year is more than that of AIDS!! Children were also educated about the importance of organ donation with regards to saving human lives.

The nursery numbers game is taking shape and the worried parents are trying out every possible conceivable permutation and combination for securing a seat for their child among the top-most Nursery schools in Delhi. Until this year, children from the neighbouring areas seemed to be scoring the maximum points as did the sibling factor. However, this year the point system based on proximity might suffer a bit as just distance won’t be the ruling factor when awarding a seat. Some schools still prefer to award admissions to students who are residing in the radius of 500 metres of the school. Parents have been saying that admissions are also affected by factors like age, economic background and intelligence quotient of the child.
