The DoE is helpless because the parents fear rejection from schools,if they complain against it.
Donations money, Expensive admission forms along with interview of parents as well as the child are just some of the aspects of admission season that is going on in Delhi.
while everything goes on in broad day light, the DoE still insists on parents coming and complaining against the schools, before they can take any action.

Nursery/KG Admission Confusion

Confusion is reigning hard for parents who have realised that unlike last year when three and four-year-old children were admitted in Nursery schools all over the city, things stand different in 2008. This is especially applicable to those of who missed out on the chance of gaining a nursery admission last year and have an age issue. This year, the KG admissions are bound to be limited. The seats in KG have reduced drastically with a higher number of nursery admissions. Those who made sure that their children (4+ Age Group) completed their nursery-level schooling from a pre-school/playschool now aren’t sure whether to send their child to a Nursery or a KG. The minimum age required for Nursery admissions this year is 3+ and 4+ for KG, however, no upper age limit has been defined by the government.

Innocent in its concept, Nursery admissions is baffling Parents

Innocent in its concept, Nursery admissions is baffling Parents

Consider these to estimate a Parents’ Dilemma —

•    Gyan Bharti, Saket has nearly 150 seats for Nursery admissions but will invite only 15 applications for KG.

•    Shri Ram School has 112 seats, each in nursery and KG but the general category seats are being anticipated to be full for KG. Most of the seats are     expected be filled by their own students.

•    In all likelihood, some schools like Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar and Bal Bharti School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, won’t be having     KG admissions to begin with whereas, schools like Mother’s International School, Aurobindo Marg and Meera Model School, Janakpuri start with a KG only and not Nursery.

Understanding Nursery Point System

This is for parents who are busy applying to the nursery schools in and around Delhi. Some of you may have been left confused, counting and calculating the points on your own, trying to measure the chances of your ward securing a seat in a nursery school of choice. The following isn’t an exact calculation of the points system, but a reference that will help you understand how different factors affect the points tally, i.e. — positively or negatively.

Neighbourhood
This is perhaps the most argued factor in the calculation. Most schools had been adhering to it, giving more points if the prospective student stayed very near, i.e. 0 to 3 km away. However, now most schools are or are in the process of doing away with this system. Many reputed schools like Amity International, Springdales and Bloom Public School-Vasant Kunj will no longer mind accepting students from distant locations.

Parents’ Profession
Schools award different points for the different professions of parents applying. This shouldn’t be thought of as discrimination. This is done so that the right mixture in the class — students having parents belonging to varied professional fields, is maintained. Therefore, parents who are self-employed as shopkeepers and businessmen or working professionals like government employees/academicians will all score differently on the Scale of 10.

Alumni/Sibling
This is one criterion that has come in handy for a lot of families. Alumni can be understood as one who has passed the Class XII examination from that particular school. Admitting the sibling/child of an alumnus guarantees that the parents already understand how the school functions. This is one norm that is prevalent amongst most schools in Delhi.

Expensive Nursery Prospectuses in Delhi

Many parents in Delhi have been left fuming as the admission to many reputed nursery schools in the capital is kicking in full swing. There have been complaints from many quarters that the prospectuses of most preschools have been very expensive this year. What is further disturbing for the parents is the fact that there is no certainty of the child actually gaining admission in that school. Some schools have even emphasized upon the parents buying CDs about the school’s curriculum.

Predicament — parents have been complaining that buying the prospectus isn’t really an option for them; it is something they can’t do without.

Result? Parents are paying thousands just for gaining a reasonable amount of information about the nursery schools.
